Because You Could Still Spread Virus!
As the vaccine roll-out speeds up, there seem to be a lot of questions why they still have to wear masks. I have shared this study about IgG and IgA with certain patients during their visit. But I’d like to share more specifics about why by citing the study with the link below. This article sums up the study simply and clearly. Hope you find it helpful.
The Hill article – People who get vaccinated may still spread the virus…
So, now we understand the vaccines help the body produce IgG that suppresses the viruses from spreading and making the host sick. But it doesn’t produce IgA that protects mucosal surfaces such as the nose, pharynx, sinuses, intestines, and respiratory tracts. Therefore, one can still harbor viruses while they may not be getting sick.
Here are a few more facts concerning vaccination;
- The vaccines may protect for about 6 months although the duration may vary.
- There are breakthrough cases where the vaccinated individuals still get infected and sick.
- It is still questionable how the vaccines will work against the new variants. The following study in Israel shows that the South African variant may evade the protection from the Pfizer vaccine.
Reuters’ article – South African Variant May Evade Protection From Pfizer Vaccine…
So, there are still many questions to be answered in the future. As one has to weigh in on the risks and benefits of getting the vaccines, I hope this cleared the fog and brought some clarity about these issues!
This was a briefing to you folks, in case you were wondering. Have a safe and healthy week!
