The cost of not addressing the global obesity crisis
I have been discussing COVID-19 related topics for the last few weeks. I will soon go back to my “normal” posting, but I strongly feel that discussing this issue is imperative at this point.
Last week, I shared a video from Dr. Martenson where he concluded with some calls for action. One of them was to reduce obesity and improve one’s overall health that can change the outcome of the battle with COVID-19.
Continuing the discussion, I like to present the correlations between COVID-19 and obesity this week.
COVID-19 and Obesity, the 2021 atlas was published by World Obesity Federation and compiled by Dr. Tim Lobstein, who served as an advisor to WHO and a visiting professor at the University of Sydney. This atlas presents a call for action and evidence with global data and statistics. It also includes the data in many countries where the different patterns of disease paths with obesity cause different outcomes.
Here are a few questions in the “evidence” section where the related data was presented;
-
Is overweight associated with the severity of COVID-19 and the need for health services?
-
Is this link between COVID-19 and overweight found across the globe?
-
Is there a threshold proportion of the population being overweight that predicts a high COVID-19 mortality rate?
I believe the data from this atlas will provide invaluable insight to understand how important it is to maintain our daily health with better choices.

Next week, I will present the updated study results from the most recent briefing from “Public Health England” regarding the statistics of Covid-19. I shared the study a few weeks back that you might recall. I have been trying to find direct statistical comparisons on infection, hospitalization, and mortality rate between the vaccinated and unvaccinated. I feel that we need more objective data to clear the fog in this current debate. I find that the comparison was clearly presented in the “Public Health England” study. But I have not found such a comparison on the CDC website yet. I will likely discuss this next week and keep you updated (As I noticed the mortality rate isn’t different from state to state just by the vaccination rate, it has a lot of common ground with the obesity rate, as you might have guessed…)
Thanks for reading! Stay healthy and safe!
