What are the symptoms of disc herniation? and how to treat them?
Why does my leg hurt with the back or disc problems?
This is one of the frequent questions I get from some of my patients who suffer from disc-related conditions. Leg pain, numbness and/or tinglings, or even weakness of the leg(s) in some severe cases occurs because the nerves that innervate and stimulate the leg functions exit from the lumbar spinal area as depicted below.
Back pain and/or leg pain from herniated discs are often disabling and dominant over most all aspects of sufferers’ daily lives. I face these patients with such debilitating pain daily but rather with hope and confidence that DTS spinal decompression procedure can help them tremendously.
Up to just a few years ago until the new technology so-called “spinal Decompression” became available, it was very difficult to treat disc herniation without facing some sort of surgical procedures including open back surgery. These days, there are also many simplified surgical procedures such as IDET (Intradiscal ElectroThermal Annuloplasty), Microdecompression. However, there is no 100% guarantee of symptom relief nor regain full function.
Spinal Decompression, on the other hand, obviously is a non-invasive and gentle procedure without compromising patients’ daily lives.
One research shows that “86% of the 219 patients who completed the therapy, reported immediate resolution of the symptoms, while 84% remained pain-free 90 days post-treatment. Physical examination findings showed improvement in 92% of the 219 patients in 90 days after treatment”.
Spinal surgery and disc disease cost the American health system more than $50 billion annually and a single surgery can cost upwards of $80,000. Clearly, non-surgical spinal decompression is a revolutionary alternative to risk surgery with remarkable cost-effectiveness.
The classical symptoms of possible disc herniation or space-occupying lesions in spinal columns include leg pain in a specific region (usually not the whole leg but rather in a narrow line pattern of shooting pain all the way down to the foot or toes), or leg pain on both legs if the disc herniation occurs in the middle of the spinal column and press in the central cord level although unilateral disc herniation is more common. At times, patients may experience more severe leg pain than back pain. If you experience such symptoms or suspect disc-related conditions, contact your doctor or health care provider.
