…You have the following symptoms;
- Food/chemical sensitivities/intolerances
- Digestive issues; diarrhea, constipation
- Skin irritations – rash, acne, eczema
- Unexplained headaches
- Fatigue and low energy
- Frequent infection, cold, and flu
- Body aches and pains
But the symptoms above may be caused by other sources of health problems as well.
So the question arises; then, Who needs detoxification? And how do we find out about that?
While thinking about that, let’s understand what detoxification really is and what is not. Detoxification is a process of eliminating potential toxins from our system while normalizing and optimizing our systems in our body. It is particularly important to understand that the process has to allow the body to restore and enhance its normal function without disrupting the homeostatic balance. Healthy detoxification should not suppress or damage any systems in the body. The myth of it is that many think of it as “washing or sucking the toxins out of the body” in a simple manner which is just not possible. It has to be understood that one has to allow the body to “restore and recover” the functions the body once has lost. It is imperative to understand it. Therefore, understanding one’s current health is very important to choose the right means of detoxification to achieve the desirable results. I personally use the following tests to determine what area of health the patient is in need to be addressed;
- Blood Test – These tests reveal overall health such as liver, GI, kidney functions, blood/immune health. Sample Report
- Food/chemical/heavy metal sensitivity test – This test reveals certain food/chemical sensitivities and a potential load of certain chemicals and heavy metals in the body. Sample Report
- GI Map – This test reveals overall health including the presence of normal and pathogenic flora of the GI system. Sample Report
- Hormone Test – This reveals the functions of essential hormones in the body such as cortisol, estrogen, testosterone, progesterone, and circadian rhythms that are related to their levels. Sample Report
So, by now we all understand that detoxification isn’t just to get rid of “toxins” but also to remove any dysfunctions in the body and restore optimal health by addressing specific issues found.
Here are some interesting facts about toxins and detoxification;
- The average household contains about 62 toxic chemicals, say, environmental experts.
- Modest estimates have suggested that we are exposed to more than 700,000 different toxic chemicals on a daily basis, and this doesn’t include the crazy poisons that GMO companies are pumping into the food supply. According to Global Healing Center, it isn’t abnormal to be exposed to 2,100,000 toxins each and every day.
- Toxic chemicals can be found in the bodies of every American.
- There are more than 80,000 chemicals produced and used in the United States. Of these, the EPA has been able to require testing on just 200 chemicals, and only five chemicals have been regulated.
- Worldwide it is estimated that approximately 1.8 billion people engage in agriculture and most use pesticides to protect the food and commercial products that they produce.
- Over 1 billion pounds of pesticides are used in the United State (US) each year and approximately 5.6 billion pounds are used worldwide
- Aspartame (the most common artificial sweetener) is a common yet dangerous artificial sweetener hidden in many common foods and beverages. Aspartame poisoning can be serious and even life-threatening. Aspartame interferes with metabolism, it can trigger the metabolic syndrome. The following may likely contain it; diet soda, gum, sugar-free candy, sugar-free ice cream, low-calorie yogurt, reduced-calorie fruit juice
How does detoxification work?
Many toxins, chemicals, and undesirable molecules are embedded in fatty tissues while they are affecting our essential metabolic pathways to produce proteins, organ tissues, hormones, and other essential molecules/tissues in the body. While providing the deficient nutrients to the body and normalizing the broken metabolic pathways, also eliminating unnecessary tissues and toxins embedded in those tissues. Heathy detoxification should therefore target all the organs and the system and help them enhance their function while eliminating toxins.
I hope this helped you understand more about what detoxification is and to find out who needs one.
